BIORESOURCES RESEARCH CENTRE (BRC)

The primary objective of the Bioresources Research Centre (BRC) at University College Dublin (UCD) is to deliver a research and development programme that is supportive of maintaining the associated knowledge base, and producing breakthroughs in technology and systems in the research and industry sector.

The BRC was recently awarded its independent Centre of Research Excellence. It will continue to contribute significantly to increasing the contribution of renewable energy resources to utilisation for heat and power and in the transport sectors in the short to medium term (5-10 years). Its affiliation with Biosystems Engineering Ltd lends itself to the link the divide between research and the potential commericalisation, technology transfer and IP issues associated with novel and bright research ideas.

The BRC continues to bid for further research funding that will enable the BRC, where deserving, to progress findings from the earmarked primary research projects to deliver scalable technologies for industry. For example, the BRC was recently awarded approximately €3 million under the Charles Parsons Energy Awards from the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources (DCENR). The Parsons award is now administered by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI).
